Senior Day, Big Races and Great Memories at King Horn

Our swim meet at King Horn against Mount Union on Saturday was the perfect way to wrap up the regular season and head into OACs with confidence. It was also Senior Day, which made the whole experience feel even more meaningful for our team.

One of my teammates and I arrived at the pool around 8:45 a.m. to help set everything up before everyone else got there. We hung up streamers around the stands, hung up balloons around the door and put up posters for each of the seniors to recognize them and everything they’ve done for the team. Some balloons popped while we were decorating, and a few streamers ended up falling in the pool, but honestly it just made the morning more fun and memorable. By the time everything was finished, the natatorium looked great and felt ready for a big meet.

Once the races started, the energy was high. The stands filled with teammates, families and friends cheering loudly for every event. Swimming against Mount Union is always competitive, and since this was our last meet before OACs, everyone was focused and using it as a final tune-up.

I swam in the 500 free and 1,000 free, and both races were against the same swimmer from Mount Union. The 1,000 was especially exciting because the first half was really close between us. We stayed nearly even for several laps before I picked up my pace halfway though and started to pull ahead. I held on and finished in first place. I was also able to take first in the 500 free, which made the wins even more satisfying.

Senior Day was one of the highlights of the whole meet. Seeing each senior walk out, read their poster and get recognized by the team and crowd was really special. It reminded me how much time, effort and dedication they’ve put into this sport and into making our team what it is.

After the meet, a group of us went to diner at Thai Jasmine to celebrate and unwind. Grabbing food with friends was the perfect way to end a long but exciting day. We laughed, talked about our races and enjoyed spending time together outside of the pool.

Overall, the meet on Saturday was fun, emotional and competitive. Everything you’d want in a regular season meet. Now we’re all excited and ready to head into OACs and finish the season strong.
