Seeing It All Come Together

This week marked a turning point in my internship with the U.S. Professional Diving Coaches Association, where I serve as the mentorship program coordinator. Over the past two months, I have been developing a mentorship program for diving coaches from the ground up. Much of the work has taken place behind the scenes, so seeing everything begin to come together this week was rewarding.

One of the biggest milestones was the program being published on the organization’s website and shared across its social media platforms. Until now, most of my time has been spent creating the structure of the program, outlining expectations for both mentors and mentees and building out the application process. While that work is not always visible, seeing the program go public made it feel real and showed that the planning stage is starting to turn into implementation.

At the same time, I have been working through recruitment by sending emails to potential participants in my free time. I currently have a list of about 2,000 contacts, and so far I have sent roughly 400 emails. That number can feel small compared to the full list, but it also highlights how much opportunity there is to continue growing the program. The process takes time, especially when trying to be intentional with outreach and respond to questions as they come in. Starting to see responses and interest from coaches has made the effort feel worthwhile.

Looking back, the amount of progress made in a short period of time stands out. Just two months ago, this program was only an idea. Now, there is a structured plan in place, applications are available and coaches are beginning to engage with it. That kind of growth in a short amount of time is something I take pride in.

This experience has also shown the importance of consistency and patience when building something from scratch. Not every step is exciting, and a lot of the work can feel repetitive, especially with tasks like sending emails. However, this week showed that those smaller efforts add up over time and lead to meaningful progress.

Overall, this week provided an opportunity to step back and recognize how far the program has come. Seeing it launch publicly and begin to gain traction has been rewarding, and it makes me excited to see how it continues to develop in the coming months.
